Cap'n Luke

Last weekend we packed 5 adults and 3 kids into a 15-foot, mostly sea-worthy vessel and traveled to Jones Island -- just off the West side of Orcas Island in the San Juans.

Laurel, Wesley, Gabriel, and Gretchen in the front of the boat (where you get the most wind, water, and spine-crushing bounces).

This is the dock area at Jones Island where we parked our 15-foot vessel next to very large yachts.

Mom and Luke having fun on the beach.

Mom and Dad are big fans of the leash...Luke says the jury is still out.

Gabriel was able to get very close to this young deer.

Our friend Dawn held Luke on the way home. Rough seas and spraying water means nothing to Luke when it is nap time. The kid slept almost the whole way home (about an hour).

Back in Anacortes...

No time for kisses, lady, I've got things to do.

It was raining tonight (Tuesday, August 26), so we put Luke's ridiculously large rain coat on him.

It keeps the rain out, but it hinders arm-mobility.

Luke's 1st Birthday at Washington Park!

Luke turned one on May 14. We celebrated the occasion on May 10 out at Washington Park in Anacortes. Luke was quick to discover that cake tastes good and enjoyed the freedom of running around in the vast open grassy areas. Notice Luke's determination as he traveled a long distance to get to that ball.

Great Bear Cake Mom!

I will get that ball and no one will stop me.

Take that cousin Thomas!

More Please!

Birthdays are exhausting!

Hanson Reunion at Seabrook

Can you tell we like the beach! The Hanson side of the family got together for a little shindig on the Washington Coast in late April. We all had a fabulous time and here are the pictures to prove it. Luke is 11 months in these pictures.

The family together on the beach!

Aunt Ashleigh and the coolest bear.

I found some sweet shells and sand dollars - that is what I am holding in my left hand.

Playing in a stream headed for the ocean. Luke is not afraid of anything new.

Two boys relaxing and having a drink!

We visited Grandpa on the way to the beach.

Our child loves any large object he can manipulate including this stick three times his size.

Awww the Beach in February!

We love the Oregon Coast in February. With mostly clear days and little wind, it is one of our favorite times to enjoy the beach. Luke tried sand for the 1st time at 9 months old. He liked it!

Luke posing for Baby GQ.

Just another shot of the cutie pie.

Great Grandma Florence passed away just about a month after Luke got to see her. What a blessing to have been able to see her.

Luke in 2008

Here is some more sweet Luke action! We had snow falling on Sunday morning and Luke was very interested...

And then MORE snow came on Monday! If you look close (click on a picture), you can see Luke's first two teeth - bottom front!

Here is a Luke highlight reel from the past few weeks.

I'm 7months old!

Hi, I wanted everybody to know that I was baby Jesus in our church musical. I bet nobody can top being baby Jesus. Mom and Dad are trying to keep me humble, but it isn't working. I picked out a Christmas tree with Grandpa and Grandma Talmadge. It was really cold that day. So I am bundled in many layers. And the last picture is me and daddy playing. I love to laugh when dad plays with me. Just lately I started to make some of the sounds that dad and mom make. I can say da da da da, guh guh guh, and na na na. I am working on becoming a Rhodes Scholar. Dad kept trying to get me to say ma ma ma, but I decided to start with da. I am seven months old and rolling all over the house getting into all kinds of things I am not supposed to. In my video, I am playing with one of many cords I am not supposed to play with. And dad is throwing a stuffed soccer ball into the air. I have a lot of fun with dad. In my second video, I am trying to talk while eating. That doesn't always work so well. Can't wait to see many of my family and friends this Christmas.

Happy Halloween!

Luke found his way into a Yoda costume last night (thanks, Ashleigh!)...

I think he is using the force.
